Fashion Design courses are available at the certificate, diploma, UG, PG, and PhD levels in India. The short-term certificate or Fashion Design Diploma courses can be as short as 3 months and can even stretch up to 2 years, based on the course focus and the institute offering the program. For UG courses like BDes/BSc/B.F.Tech/BA in Fashion Design you need to spend at least 3 to 4 years and for PG courses like MDes/MSc/M.F.Tech in Fashion Design, you need to invest at least 2 years. For research and innovation enthusiasts, a PhD in Fashion Design of 3 to 5 years can be a go-to option.

The NIFT entrance exam is considered moderately difficult. The level of difficulty of the exam depends on a student's strengths and preparation. Since seats are limited and competition is high, even average questions feel tougher due to the pressure.
B.Des exam tests creativity, design aptitude, observation, logical reasoning, and general awareness, which can be challenging and requires practice and skills like creativity, good observation, design thinking, etc.
B.F.Tech exam has more focus on quantitative ability, reasoning, and English, making it closer to an aptitude test. Mathematics is compulsory for B.F.Tech.

The educational qualification for NIFT admissions varies from course to course:

There are a total of 19 NIFTs in India that participate in the NIFT admission process. The participating institutes offer B.Des, M.Des, B.F.Tech, M.F.Tech, and M.F.M courses. Admission to the participating institutes will be on the basis of NIFT scores. NIFT Varanasi is the newly added college to the list of NIFT participating colleges.

Here are a few tips for all Fashion Design aspirants who are preparing for various design entrances:
- You should practice sketching daily to improve your observation and creative interpretation abilities and keep up with the evolving fashion trends and all the buzz in the fashion world.
- Have a look at the exam syllabus and pattern thoroughly, and note down all the exam topics in a notepad/notebook.
- Prepare a weekly schedule where you assign at least 2-3 topics to be covered each day to keep pace and avoid any possibility of early burnout.
- Practice last year's question papers, take up mock tests, and then proceed with your preparation journ

Well, yes. A majority of the top design institutes ask for an application fee at the time of the Fashion Designing admission process, which is usually submitted along with the duly filled college application form. The fees vary from one institute to another, but the general figure lies somewhere between INR 1,000 and INR 3,500.

If you wish to get a Diploma in Fashion Design after 10th you should have at least 45 to 50% marks in Class 10. There is no age limit for most of fashion design Diploma courses but a few colleges may put a maximum age limit.
For some design institutes Class 10 merit can be enough for taking admission to course but for others you need to appear for a written test and/or personal interview/portfolio submission.
That's why it is better to go to respective college website and check what all requirements and process they follow so that you can prepare yourself accordingly.
