In case, the GATE GOAPS portal is not working, then check your internet. Also, try accessing it using Google Chrome or Firefox in incognito mode. Clear your browser cache or switch devices. Prefer using a desktop. The server often slows down during peak traffic hours, especially near the deadline. If the issue persists, wait a while or try late at night or early morning when server traffic is low.

A bonafide certificate is not required while filling the application form. Only documents that are prescribed by the authorities should be uploaded. However, it is important and necessary to keep it ready as it will be required during the counselling/admission process (incase the result is delayed).

No, negative marking applies only to MCQs. Here's how the GATE 2026 negative marking for MCQs is done -

  • For a one-mark MCQ, 1/3rd mark will be deducted for an incorrect answer
  • For a two-mark question, 2/3rd mark will be deducted for an incorrect response.

There is no negative marking for MSQs and NATs.

The GOAPS (GATE Online Application Processing System) portal is an official platform for GATE 2026 aspirants. It is where you register, fill out the application form, make edits in the form, download admit card, raise objections to the answer key, and check results. To create a GOAPS portal, candidates need to provide their active e-mail ID and password. So, it is advised to keep those credentials safe for future purpose.
