The GATE 2026 is scheduled to take place on February 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2026. The exam will be conducted online in two shifts. The session timings of the GATE 2026 exam are -

  • Forenoon shift from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM and
  • Afternoon shift from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM

Candidates are advised to check their exam timings (mentioned on the GATE admit card 2026) and report to the exam centre 60 minutes before the exam.

If you don't receive an email or SMS confirmation after submitting your GATE 2026 application form, first check your spam/junk folder. Make sure your mobile number is active and email was entered correctly. Log in to GOAPS and verify that the form status is marked as “Submitted” with a successful payment. If needed, contact the helpdesk with your enrollment ID.

Before applying for the GATE 2026 -

  • Make sure to keep all the documents ready
  • Ensure that your mobile number and email ID is active. 
  • Before hitting the submit button, go through all the details carefully. 
  • Do contact the heldesk for further query.

No, a thumb impression is not compulsory to be uploaded in the application form of GATE 2026. According to the latest instructions, the candidates will have to fulfil the criteria of uploading their passport size photograph, signature, valid ID proof, and eligibility papers (provisional certificate, caste, or PwD certificate), and a thumb impression is not a necessary document to apply.

Summary:
All you have to do is copy-paste a well-formatted photo and signature, the required certificates and identity proof. GATE 2026 no longer requires thumb impressions in the document upload requirement.

Once the GATE application form is submitted, the GOAPS portal will show a confirmation message and generate a PDF preview of your form. Candidates will also receive an email and SMS confirmation. Candidates must check that their payment status shows "successful" and all the uploaded documents are clearly visible. Candidates can login at the GOAPS portal to check their application status and download their submitted form.

The GATE 2026 registration will start in the fourth week of August. Candidates who meet the eligibility conditions of GATE 2026 can apply for the exam. The registration mode is online and must be submitted before the due date. The GATE registration comprises the following steps -

  • GATE registration to generate enrollment ID and password
  • Filling out the application form
  • Uploading of the documents
  • Payment of the GATE application fee
  • Accepting the self-declaration form
  • Submission of the GATE application form

The GATE paper code of physics is PH. Candidates willing to apply for the physics must check the paper code carefully before applying for the GATE 2026 exam. The eligible GATE paper codes are Life Sciences (XL), Computer Science and Information Technology (CS), Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DA), Electronics and Communication (EC), Electrical Engineering (EE), Mathematics (MA), and Engineering Sciences (XE).

If in case, a candidate has missed the regular deadline can still submit their application form by paying a late fee. The last date to submit the GATE 2026 application form with late fees is October 6. The late fee is INR 500, and candidates can paying using netbanking/credit card/debit card or UPI. However, it is best to apply before the regular timeline to avoid server rush, errors, or missed opportunities.
