The following categories of candidates are eligible to appear for GATE :
- Bachelor's degree holders in Engineering/Technology/ Architecture (4 years after 10+2) with minimum 60% and those who are in the final year of such programmes.
- Master's degree holders in any branch of Science/Mathematics/ Statistics/Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final year of such programmes.
- Candidates in the second or higher year of the Four-year Integrated Master's degree programme (Post-B.Sc.) in Engineering/Technology.
- Candidates in the fourth or higher year of Five-year Integrated Master's degree programme or Dual Degree programme in Engineering/Technology.
- Candidates with qualifications obtained through examinations conducted by professional societies recognized by UPSC/AICTE (e.g. AMIE by Institute of Engineers (India); AMICE by Institute of Civil Engineers (India)) as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech. Those who have completed section A or equivalent of such professional courses are also eligible.
- Pre-final year students are not eligible to write GATE.
You are not eligible as you have scored below 60%.

* To ace the exam, you require the right approach along with the right study materials and strategy.
* Stay focused. Plan your preparation after knowing your strengths and weaknesses. You need to be organized and follow a time-table.

Colleges that you can consider for PhD in Computer Science Engineering-
1. Christ College, 2 year Doctor of Philosophy- Computer Science
Eligibility-
A pass with 55% marks in Post graduation and M.Phil. in the relevant subject from any recognized university.
A research proposal (Maximum 1500 words) has to be submitted along with the application.
2. Jamia Millia Islamia, 3 year Doctor of Philosophy- Computer Science
Eligibility- Minimum qualification required to apply for the course is postgraduate.
3. Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad, 5 years Doctor of Philosophy- Computer Science
Eligibility-
Masters degree in the relevant discipline with a first class or a minimum of 60% marks or a C.P.I. of 6.5 or equivalent.
The candidate must have a valid GATE score.
4. Indian Institute of Science Education & Research, 3 year Doctor of Philosophy- Computer Science
Eligibility-
Candidate must be Master's degree in science for pursuing this programme.
