Now coming to your question, yes you can take foreign language course without having much prior knowledge in that language but you have to start with some basics and then gradually progress with advance as they don't have any stern criteria for admission.
IITK FLP offers two-semester courses in French, German and Japanese. Level 1 and Level 2 courses are offered in all the three languages. Certificates are given by II

Foreign Language: It has its own aura and fascination. It evokes awe. But for those into this, it's hard grind. Particularly the talking practice, listening practice are quite tough. Of course these days U-tube helps in polishing these skills but then nothing can compare live practice.It's a good to think of doing some course related to the history or culture or politics of the country of that language. It's great asset while teaching or while involved in translating activity. Perspective is a great leveler. If we have this then the balance of rationality kicks in and one starts having empathy for the language. Even a trip to all

1. Goethe: Intitut Max Muller Bhawan: The Goethe-Institut is the cultural institute of the Federal Republic of Germany with a global reach. This is the most famous place to learn German. It is located on K.G Marg very near to BVB.
