A GNM is not a doctor. GNM is a diploma-level course that prepares you to be a Nurse or a Midwife. Nurses and Midwives assist senior doctors in treatments and procedures done on patients. Though GNMs work closely with doctors and other healthcare professionals, they are not qualified and trained to diagnose illness, prescribe medicine, or perform any surgical treatment.

Of course you can. GNM is a diploma-level course that can be pursued after Class 12. In fact, many GNM colleges do not even require applicants to have a Science background in Class 12. You just need to pass Class 12 or equivalent from a recognised institution, and you can apply for the GNM course.
