At IISER Pune, the process of MSc starts with an entrance test that is administered by the college. Qualified candidates are further tested by merit lists that are drawn up based on their examination score and eligibility criteria. Short listed students are invited to undergo counselling session in order to finalize admission formalities. Admission in IISER Pune is only confirmed after payment of fees and after verification of documents.

Applicants to the MSc programme at IISER Pune are required to go through the application process on the official admission portal online. They will have to register, complete academic and personal information, submit the required documents, and pay the required fee. Every year the application form is normally issued in March or April. Shortlisting is then done in accordance with the performance in the entrance exams and informing the candidates over the official site.

The qualification for the BS-MS programme at IISER Pune mandates students to pass Class 12 or an equivalent with a Science stream from a board. Students must also pass in the IISER Aptitude Test (IAT). The erstwhile avenues such as KVPY and JEE-Advanced are not taken into account anymore. This helps ensure that students are equipped with the necessary academics to pursue the integrated dual degree programme.

IISER Pune cutoff 2025 has been released for different categories of students under the AI quota. For the General AI category, the first-round cutoff rank for BS + MS admission across multiple specialisations was 355. To view the category-wise ranks, refer to the table below:

IISER Pune accepts various national-based/ in-house entrance test scores for admissions to MSc courses. Moreover, which entrance exam is accepted by the institution depends on the specialisation candidates have selected. Check out the name of the specialisation and its accepted entrance exam in the table below:

Candidates can get admission to the IISER Pune MSc course without IIT JAM scores. However, it completely depends on the specialisation candidates have selected. Candidates can get admission into MSc in Mathematics and MSc in Physics (Quantum Technology) without IIT JAM scores. For MSc Physics, candidates with relevant scores in the GATE exam with subject codes PH, EE, EC, IN, MA, ST, CS, and DA can also apply, and for MSc Mathematics, the institute accepts its in-house-entrance test.

Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Pune, is one of the seven Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research, and candidates are not allowed to get direct admission into any of its offered courses. Moreover, to get admissions, candidates are required to appear in the relevant entrance exam associated with the offered specialisation.
