IIT Bhilai is considered a competitive institution, but generally less so than the older, more established IITs, making it a relatively good option for those who aim for a good Engineering education but may not have the highest JEE Advanced rank. The cutoff ranks for IIT Bhilai have varied over the years, but generally, the closing ranks for the general category in Computer Science Engineering (CSE) have been around the 5,000-6,000 range. To decide which is a better choice of BTech, students must weigh both options based on various parameters such as placement, ranking, fees, and more. As per the NIRF ranking, IIT Bhilai has been ranked in the 73rd position, while IIT Dharwad was ranked in the 101-150 position. Moreover, as per the 2023 placement records, the highest package offered at IIT Dharwad stood at INR 18.53 LPA, which was less in IIT Bhilai, i.e, INR 14 LPA. Lastly, as per official sources, the tuition fees charged by both institutes are the same, i.e., INR 8 lakh. Thus, IIT Dharwad and IIT Bhilai are fine choices.

IIT JAM is the accepting exam for IIT Bhilai for MSc admissions. The Cutoff for been concluded after release of 5 rounds. The Cutoff ranks were released for MSc in Chemistry, MSc in Mathematics & Computing and MSc in Physics. For MSc in Mathematics & Computing and MSc in Physics, the Last round closing ranks were 594 and 803, respectively, for the General AI category candidates.
