IIT Patna provides Merit-cum-Means Scholarship to meritorious and needy students. The scholarship is offered to students based on their merit and annual family income. Students doing a course from IIT Patna can also apply for Central, State, UGC Scheme scholarships. Students must fulfill the criteria to avail the scholarship.

Candidates need to apply online for JEE Main for BTech admission at IIT Patna. Students need to fill out the form for JEE (Main) through the website of the National Testing Agency (NTA) (nta.ac.in). The fees for boys is INR 625 and INR 325 for girls.

Candidates need to pass IIT JAM with a good rank to get a seat in the MSc programme of IIT Patna. The seats are offered in the MSc programme via CCMN Counselling. The IIT JAM cutoff is quite competitive for MSc admission at IIT Patna. The closing rank was between 575-699 for MSc in 2025.

Candidates must complete Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with a minimum of 75% aggregate to apply for BTech programme at IIT Patna. Aspirants also need to pass JEE Main followed by JEE Advanced to get a seat in the BTech course.

Candidates are offered seat in IIT Patna BTech CSE programme based on their JEE Advanced rank. Looking at the past three-year closing rank, the cutoffs has a declining trend. The closing rank was 2811 in 2023, 3144 in 2024 and 3377 in 2025.

No, the GATE cutoffs for IIT Patna 2025 admissions are currently unknown. The only availabe cutoff data for MSc admissions at IIT Patna comes from IIT JAM. The GATE cutoffs may differ from the IIT JAM however, the difficulty of both exams is relatively the same. Hence, candidates can expect similar trends in the GATE cutoffs for IIT Patna MSc admissions as the IIT JAM cutoffs.

The MSc course with the least amount of competition during IIT Patna admissions was the MSc in Physics course. The cutoff for the aforementioned MSc course stood at 684 during 2025 admissions.

This is a noticably lower closing rank compared to the other MSc courses which had a closing rank of 575 and 611. Among the integrated MSc courses, the lowest competition stood for the MSc + PhD in Mathematics course.

The OBC category of students receive the highest number of reserved seats during MSc admissions at IIT Patna. To be eligible for this MSc seat reservation policy, candidates need to present certificates of recognition under the OBC category at the time of admissions. 

These students get from 2 - 7 reserved seats in the MSc courses at IIT Patna.

Among the general MSc admissions at IIT Patna, the lowest number of seats were offered for the MSc in Mathematics admissions. Unlike the other two specialisations, MSc in Mathematics only offered nine seats for allotement during admissions. The seats for the intgrated courses are the same across all specialisations. The seat intake for integrated MSc courses stood at 2 seats.

IIT Patna MSc students are required to pay a total of INR 4 Lacs towards the insurance charge during the duration of the MSc course. The insurance charge is paid in two annual at INR 2 Lacs per annum. 

Every installment of the insurance charge must be paid at the beginning of the first and third semesters of the MSc course respectively.
