No, the IIT Patna PhD admissions are no longer open for the January session in 2026. The last date to apply for IIT Patna PhD's January admissions was October 22nd 2025. Candidates who missed this application window can still apply for the July session which are currently open.

Yes IIT Patna offers a relaxation in both the age limit as well as the minimum aggregate for last qualifying exams in the PhD admission criteria. Candidates are offered a relaxation of 5% along with a relaxation of 5 years in the PhD eligibility criteria during IIT Patna course admissions.

No, GATE is not a mandatory entrance exam for IIT Patna PhD admissions. To become qualified for IIT Patna course admission to the PhD course, candidates can also appear for the UGC NET as well. 

However, candidates with an appropriate CGPA in their BTech course from a Centrally Funded Technical Institutes can get direct admissions into the IIT Patna PhD course.

IIT Patna offers a BTech course to students at the UG level. It is offered for 4 years in several specialisations. To be eligible for BTech at IIT Patna, candidates must fulfil the eligibility criteria of the course. Further, candidates seeking admission to the BTech programme must be Class 12 passed with 75% aggregate.

IIT Patna admissions to the courses are conducted on the basis of entrance exam scores of the candidates. The institute accepts several entrance exam scores for admission such as JEE Main, JEE Advanced,  GATE, JMET,  CAT, XAT,  MAT, ATMA, etc.

Yes, IIT Patna campus is safe for girls and boys. The college campus is located in Bihar. It has a good connection with roads and public transports. CCTV cameras are installed in the campus to keep a check on students safety.
