Admissions to IITs and NITs doesn't depend upon dropping years. Its solely depends on your preparation. You have to work hard

Yes IITs are better in terms of placement except new IITs.Top NITs are somehow better than the new IITs in placement records.I have seen students rejecting a seat in new IIT for Top NIT.

Dear sakshi, many students prepare for different entrance exams along with their studies. but sometimes it so happens that you are not able to give your best in any of them. having said that, a plan B in life always helps.
so while you are preparing for JEE, you can give a SAT(math/verbal)/TOEFL(English) for pursuing studies in USA.
Somehow, you will find these exams to be less tough than a JEE exam.
