Institute of Engineering & Management (IEM) is the oldest private engineering and Management college in West Bengal. The Institute is affiliated to WBUT. B.Tech, M.Tech, MBA courses are under AICTE, government. Of INDIA. The institute offers both PGDM and MBA courses which is unique among post graduate colleges. The institute has a huge collections of books and journals in its library and it subscribes to many online database like Bloomberg, Prowess etc. IEM has strong placement cell. Four placement officers under the chairmanship of the Institutes director work as placement cell. The institute boasts of more than 100% placement for its undergraduate courses, the average package being 3.5 LPA to 4 LPA. The MBA placement is somewhat feeble, providing average package of 3 LPA to 4 LPA. The major recruiters are: CTS, Infosys, Wipro, PwC, KPMG, CMC Limited, IBM, HSBC, Nestle, HP, TCS and Vodafone.

When it comes to choosing between B.Tech entrance exam and direct admission, it completely depends on the requirement of the candidate. If you are not sure of securing admission in top B,Tech college and branch with your entrance exam rank or score, it is advisable to go for direct admission.
However, direct admission in B.Tech is possible only in private colleges or deemed universities. You cant get direct admission in government engineering colleges as the admissions in these colleges are based on the rules and regulations fixed by the state government. One has to appear for entrance exam/ participate in the counselling process to get admission in government engineering college. The seats are allocated on the basis of merit, i.e., the performance of candidates in the entrance exam or class 12th marks. Candidates aspiring for direct admission in B.Tech will have to visit the respective college directly. The candidates need to obtain the application form by paying the prescribed application fee. Along with the application form, the candidates will have to submit the documents that are required to get admission. Some colleges also accept online application form through their official website for direct B.Tech admission.
