There are many colleges available in Chennai offering Interior design courses. However going for the best out of these would result to National College of Design, Spaceterior. However if you move out of Chennai There are top colleges available as courses like interior design, fashion design requires good college for placement assistance and better practical exposure. Some suggestions -

You may get your son enrolled in Rachna Sansad, as this is one of the best and renowned institute for Interior designing.

Most firms will require that you atleast have a bachelors degree. As far as I know, getting a diploma will only give you knowledge on the basics of interior design. You need to know how to sketch, use programs such as CAD and Revit and must be aware of all safety codes and regulations.
To be titled as an interior designer you need to have 6 years of experience (bachelors degree with at least 2 years schooling and another 4 years working under another licensed designer) and then you can take the national exam held by the NCIDQ. Once you have met all the requirements and have passed the test then you are a licensed designer

Yes, you can study literally anything you want if you are truly interested in it. You can pursue interior designing however for admissions universities will ask for a portfolio or sample of your work. Go for it if you are interested to have a career in interior designing and if you believe you have the creative side in you.

The minimum percentage to get admission into a regular college,you must have 50% in 12th. So you may take admission into a distance course.
