Today "Admiralty Law" and "Maritime Law" are used interchangeably to describe laws governing activities, ships and also injuries on oceans and navigable waterways. But historically Admiralty referred to court system handling maritime disputes and Maritime Law referred to substantive laws regulating shipping and seamen's rights.
