In India, admission to a Master of Science programme generally requires a completed undergraduate degree—with no active arrears—by the time of final enrolment. While many entrance tests (e.g., JAM, CUET PG) allow candidates to apply with pending backlogs or “result? awaited” status, universities and the UGC mandate that all arrears must be cleared before the start of the postgraduate course. UGC guidelines grant a two? year grace period beyond the scheduled duration of a bachelor's or master's programme to clear backlog papers, but admission cannot be confirmed until those backlogs are resolved.
