I have never heard of such thing in VIT. Maybe, it's something new that they have launched. But to be frank VIT B.Tech is far better than M.Tech.
That's the reason why, B.Tech the highest package was 22 LPA while the M.Tech guys were no where close. And when you opt for dual degree course you will be one among the M.Tech guys. As it is IIT, so, I can assure you about qualified faculty, excellent placements. So, I believe, it will be worth doing M.Tech from here.

Yes placement records of CSE, IT and ECE are very good in VIT so I will prefer doing M.Tech and B.Tech with CSE has more value than ECE.
