The Common Admission Test (CAT) is a computer based test held in India. The test scores a candidate on the bases of Quantitative Ability (QA), Verbal Ability (VA) and Reading Comprehension (RC), Data Interpretation (DI) and Logical Reasoning (LR). The Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) started this exam and use the test for selecting students for their business administration programs.

Hello Tani,
Getting MBA from IIM's is totally different than PG in quantitative economics. I would strongly advise you to go full heartedlly for preparing for CAT. If I may add why not prepare for civil services examination? One year in life, even if you don't qualify, is nothing compared to the satisfaction you will always have of attempting something that you wanted. Go ahead for CAT.

Your percentile is very low for a good Tier 1 or Tier 2 B-Schools, however, you may consider following in preferential order:
1. Alkesh Dinesh Modi Institute of Management Studies, Kalina Campus, Mumbai University
2. Thakur College, Thakur Complex, Kandivali East
3. Rizvi College, Bandra West

If you are looking for a good college with that score, then it is impossible to get one as the cutoffs of all top colleges are generally 98-99+ percentile. Better you reappear for CMAT(or any other exam) and score high rather than taking admission in a below average college, thus wasting both your time and money. Good luck!

Other than CAT, you can write XAT/CMAT/MAT/SNAP/TISS/NMAT/IIFT to get into top B-Schools of India. if you are looking for MBA in HR TISS is one of the best institute. Symbiosis colleges select through SNAP. IIFT conducts its own exam for 2 locations Kolkata and Delhi.

Look, it's totally up to you if you think you can prepare again and score good marks then its fine. If you think while doing a job you may not be able to do it then go for the admission as it will add value to knowledge and experience.

Guide-Level 11

Hi,
As per the guidelines of the IIM, it is not possible for a person to get admission by XAT.
The admission is purely based on CAT score & it is the only way to get into an IIM.
