One of the reasons why an MBA from IIM is so special is the ample opportunity for foreign placements as several foreign companies visit IIMs for recruitment. This is also an indication of the strong alumni network and the achievements of past students of IIM in global firms. Higher compensation
With the great skills that the student has developed learning from a reputed IM, the student is bound to get a higher pay as compared to the others. The average package that an IIM graduate can expect ranges between 10 to 20 Lacs per annum.

One of the significant difference is that IIM is an autonomous institute which provides Post graduate Diploma in management, better known as PGDM, instead of an MBA course, which other universities offer. One of the biggest things that makes IIM Ahmedabad itself special is the faculty. IIM Ahmedabad faculty includes well-known scientists, professors, and business thinkers. Some of the professors here have followers who appear to be sects because of the knowledge, insight, and sheer wisdom they bring to the class.

Here is where you will find differences. The crowd, the quality of people around, the ambience, the best faculty members in the nation and their experience, the teaching method, the international exposure for the students and the pay package which comes only with the brand.

Preparing for CAT is most certainly a good use of time. If you do it well, solid CAT preparation is of value even if you do not take CAT. It is a fabulous exercise of the mind that will hold you in good stead. Importantly, not going for CAT is akin to giving up on an aspiration, on a dream.
