Unfortunately, you can not join merchant navy after B.Tech civil engineering unless you do B.Tech marine engineering or B.Sc nautical science as additional degrees.

Sorry to say but 12th pass outs with commerce stream cannot join merchant navy.
You should try joining the army, just fill up the form and make sure you fill the prerequisites. Wish you good luck for your upcoming exams.

You are advised to appear for Common Entrance Test conducted by Indian Maritime University Chennai to seek admission in B.Sc Nautical Science in top Marine colleges. Eligibility criteria is as follows:
"10+2/ equivalent (PCM-60% and minimum of
50% marks in English subject in 10th / 12th
Examination.) In case of SC/ST candidates there will be a 5% relaxation in eligibility marks;
however, it will not apply to English marks."

Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility for joining merchant navy is finishing class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
Candidates have to be unmarried Indian citizens (male or female).
- Normal vision is required but glasses up to plus or minus 2.5 may be allowed.
- Admission is through an entrance followed by a screening test and a main written examination.
- After clearing the test, there is an interviewand a medicaltest.
- You also need to complete a ship-training course prior to the employment. The course is generally short-term where the candidates are taught basic security concerns of voyaging.
