Monash University was established by the Act of the State Parliament of Victoria in the year 1958 as a result of the Murray Report. This is the first university that has been named after a person, rather than a city or state. Monash University's Clayton's campus is known to be the university's foundation campus that had its first student enrollment in the year 1961, making it the first university that was established in Victoria.
