To be eligible for NIST Berhampur BTech admission, applicants must have passed Class 12 with a minimum of 45%. The minimum marks required in Class 12 in the case of candidates belonging to the SC and ST categories is 40%. Additionally, candidates must have studies Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects in Class 12. Chemistry/Computer Science/Electronics/Information Technology/Biology/Informatics Practices/Biotechnology/Technical Vocational Subjects/Agriculture/Engineering Graphics/Business Studies/Entrepreneurship are optional subjects.

NIST allows direct admission to the third semester of its BTech programme in all specialisations. The admission criteria for lateral entry is as per the JEE norms for lateral entry. Candidates willing to take lateral entry admission to NIST BTech programme must be eligible as per the following eligibility criteria:
- A Diploma of a minimum of three years, with at least 45% marks (40% in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST category)
or
- A BSc degree from a UGC-recognised university, with at least 45% marks (40% in case of candidates belonging to reserved category) and a pass in Class 12 with Mathematics as a subject

Yes, NIST Berhampur has separate hostel facilities for both boys and girls. The hostels are at the NIST campus.
