The application process varies from course to course.The application process of BTech, MTech, and MSc is done via the official website of JoSAA, GATE, and JAM respectively. Candiates with a valid entrance exam score msut apply through the counselling bodies of JoSAA (BTech), CCMT (MTech), and CCMN (MSc). As for the PhD programme, candidates must apply via the NIT Meghalay's official website by filling the online appplication form.

NIT Meghalaya offers a four year duration programme in Bachelor of Technology. It is regular programme for class 12 passed out students. NIT Meghalaya admission to the BTech programme is based on JEE Main scores followed by JoSAA counselling. NIT Meghalaya provides five specialisations for the BTech programme, which include Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Electrical Engineering. Admission to the BTech programme is only possible when candidates pass the eligibility criteria.

NIT Meghalya offers a pretty decent placement for the offered courses. NIT Meghalaya concluded the 2023 placement session with 199 job offers. The NIT Meghalaya average package and the highest package stood at INR 11.10 LPA and INR 32 LPA, respectively. Additionally, the the lowest package offered was INR 3.6 LPA. Over 60 companies participated in NIT Meghalaya placements 2023, including well-known companies such as Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Wipro, Infosys, TCS, Deloitte, etc.

NIT Meghalaya BTech programme isn’t ranked internationally. However the BTech programmehas been ranked under National Institutional Ranking Framework, NIRF. NIRF is an approved by the MHRD and was launched by Honourable Minister of Human Resource Development on 29th of September 2015. The NIRF has ranked NIT Meghalaya BTech programme 72 among top engineering colleges in India.

NIT Meghalaya has released the placements record for 2023. As per the report the recruitng companies, including Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Wipro, Infosys, TCS, Deloitte, etc. participated in the placement drive offereing 199 jobs. The NIT Meghalaya average package offered during the 2023 placement drive stood:

NIT Meghalaya Seat intake for the B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering is 33. The seat intake number is moderately less comapre to NIT Trichy's BTech Seat intake which is 47.

The 2023 cutoff for BTech in Computer Science and Engineering was 25978, which was the least competetive specialisations offered by NIT Nagaland. The cutoff for the year 2022 was 17921 and for the year 2021 it was 24041. As per the date it concludes that cutoff for 2023 is higher compare to the previous two years, which indicates the rise in demand of the CSE course.
