With 97 percentile in JEE Main  (AIR ~25,000-30,000), you have a fair chance for CSE, Data Science, or AI at NITs like:

  • NIT Jalandhar
  • NIT Durgapur
  • NIT Hamirpur
  • NIT Patna
  • NIT Raipur

Cutoffs vary yearly, so consider newer NITs for better chances. Participate in JoSAA counseling and use college predictors for precise options.

Admission to National Institutes of Technology depends entirely on your JEE Main rank and score results. Candidates classified as General category must achieve high marks for admission into leading NITs. Students need to earn scores above 180 marks to achieve good results while students targeting NIT Trichy or IIIT Hyderabad must obtain marks exceeding 200. The acceptable range for General category students to qualify stands between 85 marks to 100 marks. The expected percentile ranges for admission to NITs include NIT Trichy (98 percentile) and NIT Warangal (96 percentile) as well as NIT Puducherry (75 percentile).

Yes, even if you have less than 60% in your B.Tech, you can still get admission to an M.Tech programme in IITs or NITs by qualifying the GATE exam, as the primary selection criteria for M.Tech admissions in these institutes is your GATE score, not just your B.Tech percentage; however, some institutes might have a minimum percentage requirement which you should check before applying.

GATE is the deciding factor:Your GATE score will be the most important factor in determining your admission to an M.Tech programme in IITs and NITs.
