Jobs on campus, such as those in administration, food service, or the library, usually pay between USD 15 and USD 20 per hour. Stipend graduate assistantships, which provide a set stipend rather than hourly compensation, are awarded to certain students. In order to keep their F-1 visa status, all international students must submit yearly tax reports and are protected by American labour laws.

International graduate students are allowed to work on campus without a permit. However, one needs to qualify for either Curricular Practical Training (CPT) or Optional Practical Training (OPT) in order to work off campus. Students are allowed to work part-time (up to 20 hours per week) throughout the semester and full-time during breaks from school. Part-time co-ops and internships are encouraged by CPT because they are seen as valid professional experience. Graduate student assistantships are frequently seen as useful work experience.
