Jobs on campus, such as those in administration, food service, or the library, usually pay between USD 15 and USD 20 per hour. Stipend graduate assistantships, which provide a set stipend rather than hourly compensation, are awarded to certain students. In order to keep their F-1 visa status, all international students must submit yearly tax reports and are protected by American labour laws.

International graduate students are allowed to work on campus without permit. However one needs to qualify for either Curricular Practical Training (CPT) or Optional Practical Training (OPT) for off campus. Students are allowed to work part time (up to 20 hours per week) throughout  semester. Full time during breaks from school. Part-time coops and internships are encouraged by CPT. They are seen as valid professional experience. Graduate student assistantships are frequently seen as useful work experience.
