Ph.D Fees

Candidates are required to pay an application fee to register for PhD course. Aspirants need to pay the application fee in the form of Demand Draft. Below is category-wise application fee for PhD:

The fee for a Ph.D. programme at Madras University varies based on different criteria. For Indian students, the fees are as follows:

• For full-time research students in the Science department: Rs. 8,000 per annum
• For foreign students in the Arts department: Rs. 60,000 per annum.
• For foreign students in the Science department: Rs. 1,00,000 per annum

The application fee per department is INR 1,000 for the General/ Gen-EWS/ OBC category and INR 500 for SC/ST/PWD/Female category candidates. This amount is completely non-refundable. Candidates can deposit the requisite application fee by using net banking or debit/credit card facilities. Additional charges are applicable as per the rule of the concerned bank. The fee is, however, not accepted through any other mode.

The tuition fee for PhD at SNU Chennai is INR 72,000. This fee is sourced from official website/ sanctioning body and is subject to change. Futher, candidates also have to pay for refundable caution deposit of INR 10,000 ( one-time) & admission fee (one-time) of INR 5,000 at the time of admission. The thesis fee will be INR 15,000, which is to be paid at the time of submission of PhD synopsis)

Additionally, the scholars will be provided with free shared accommodation in the hostel and Married scholars will be provided campus accommodation at a nominal rent.
