There is a lot of colleges who offer direct admission based on 12th marks or just appear in any lateral admission  entrance exam .There is a lot of colleegs in india who offer direct admission in 2nd year i.e lateral entry.For more once visit offcial website.At first decide in which entrance exam u appear and I which state you want to take admission.

Polytechnics usually need a Science background to get into Mechanical Engineering. Since you belong to the Arts stream, direct entry may not be feasible. At Father Agnel Polytechnic college, cutoff for Diploma in AI and Mechanical engineering, cutoff for Diploma in AI is around 85% and Mechanical engineering it is, 83%. These marks are based on the 10+2 pattern examination marks .
