Yes, you can join SIT for the B.Tech course even without going through WBJEE. In fact, the institute gives admission under Management Quota and DASA quota. This way, students who do not have a good percentage in WBJEE can even get a seat in the institute, provided they satisfy all the eligibility conditions which generally include passing 10+2 levels with science and other specific subjects. The institute should be contacted for a detailed guideline with regard to management quota admissions and the process followed for an application.

The Siliguri Institute of Technology (SIT) could have relatively challenging campus life, as entry into SIT is a fairly competitive process, which includes the entrance exams WBJEE or JEE Main involving cutoffs from 60% to 70% for the general category. Eligibility also requires 45% in 10+2 along with physics and mathematics as mandatory subjects. It's an industry-oriented course, so faculties are quite experienced. Even though the academic environment at the university is demanding, the students must be prepared for the academic pressures and rigorous course work and active participation in projects and co-curricular activities.

In general, Siliguri Institute of Technology is categorized as a Tier 2 college. The primary reason is that it focuses a bit on the regional front and the ranking that goes behind it in West Bengal. Though there is always good infrastructure and decent placement probability, it does not enjoy national importance like Tier 1 colleges in the IITs and NITs. Still, this college has quite a good repute in the state to produce competent engineers and is known for its teaching acumen along with campus facilities.
Information about official rankings or placement reports by the institute itself should be sought for further details.

Siliguri Institute of Technology, or SIT, is a good option for B.Tech., providing various streams, from Computer Science, Electrical, to Electronics & Communication. The placement record is slowly improving, with Infosys, TCS, and Wipro visiting it for campus recruitment, though the average package is somewhat lower compared to other top-tier institutions.
