NIT Hamirpur is considered a better choice for B.Tech than MMU Solan due to its national reputation, higher NIRF ranking, and better placement rate. However, MMU Solan is a more affordable option.

Solan is home to two universities: IEC University and MMU Solan - Maharishi Markandeshwar University. Some claim that while placement chances at both universities are mediocre, MMU has a stronger overall brand.

Rankings: IEC University is placed 9th in Himachal Pradesh and 99th in India in the IIRF University Rankings 2022. MMU was placed in the 601–800 range in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2023.

Placements: The highest package at IEC University is reportedly about 22 LPA, based on one source. At MMU, packages range from 3.5 to 5 LPA on average, with 10 LPA being the largest package.
