St. Xavier's College is a popular college as NIRF has ranked it 6th in the 'Science' category in 2024. Moreover, National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has recognised it as a 'A++' grade institute. In May 2006, UGC declared SXC Kolkata with the title of 'College with Potential for Excellence'. Further, from July 2006, it became an autonomous college, which made it the first college to do so in the state of West Bengal.
