In case of CIT there are 60 seats for M.Sc. Data Science and there are 40 seats in PSG Tech for the same course. In CIT the admission takes place on the basis of the cut-off obtained in the board exams, ENTRANCE EXAM CONDUCTED BY THE INSTITUTE followed by THREE LEVEL OF INTERVIEWS. If you clear this you will get admitted into the college. AND, IN THE CASE OF EXCEPTION IF YOU ARE REALLY INTERESTED IN DATA Science or, IF YOU ARE WHOLE MINDED THAT YOUR FUTURE IS PURELY BASED ON COMPUTERS, THEN GO FOR THE MANAGEMENT SEATS. It does not matter what kind of internships you do for CAT exam, although it matters if you want to do job in biotech. Work experience is counted for CAT and not internship experience. Secondly, you can start preparing for the exam in your last sem or last year. If you are really impatient then start solving GA questions from previous years. And most importantly focus on your college %/CGPA/SGPA. It should be very good.

Your degree may be valid but it may be so that the West Bengal School Service Commission does not recognize distance degree and recognizes only regular degree. For this you will have to check their website. Along with this having the requisite % is also important.
