IIT-Madras and NIT-Trichy are the first preferences of any student in Tamil Nadu. More good colleges are VIT, PSG College of Technology, SASTRA University, TCE-Madurai, CIT , Karunya University, SCT Salem, etc.

There are lots of colleges and deemed universities in Chennai and Hyderabad. But, why stick to only these two cities? Of course, if this is your aim then so be it. However, general rule of probability will apply, meaning as you restrict choice, you have to work hard to get a better ranking as only better ranking can take you to your goal.
