There are so many candidates who have asked this question that whether it is compulsory or not to have a UGC NET Certificate to become a lecturer. So, here you can check the perfect solution to this query. As per the UGC guidelines and rules, it is mandatory to clear UGC NET Exam to become an Assistant Professor or Lecturer. Candidates who have completed Ph.D. are also not exempted from this exam, however, such candidates get 5% relaxation in the qualifying marks for NET Exam. An important note was released by the UGC for the Ph.D. degree holders. According to this notice The Ph.D. degree holders whose Masters have been completed by 19th September 1991 (irrespective of the date of declaration of result) will be eligible to get 5% relaxation in required aggregate marks for UGC NET I. e. from 55% to 50%.
There is only one condition under which aspirants are eligible to become a lecturer without appearing in the UGC NET Exam I. e. you must have Ph.D. degree from the top 500 universities of the world. Such candidates are eligible for direct recruitment for the post of Assistant Professors from 2021 onwards.
