IGNOU BEd Entrance Exam 2026: Notification, Registration, Dates, Syllabus, Results & Counselling

The IGNOU BEd Entrance Test is an all-India level entrance test conducted by Indira Gandhi National Open University. It is conducted in offline mode for admissions of eligible candidates for its Bachelor of Education (BEd) program. Every year, thousands of candidates appear for the IGNOU BEd Entrance Test. As per estimates, in 2018, a total of 18,283 candidates appeared for the teaching entrance exam. The duration of the IGNOU BEd course is two years. However, candidates are allowed to complete the course for a maximum duration of five years. The medium of instruction of the IGNOU BEd program is English and Hindi.

If you wish to apply for the IGNOU BEd entrance exam, then fulfil the listed requirements.

a) at least 50% either in the Bachelor’s Degree and/or in theMaster’s Degree in Sciences, SST, Commerce, or Humanities. Bachelor’s in Engineering or Technology with specialization in Science and Mathematics with 55% marks or any other qualification equivalent thereto,

For ODL (Open Distance Learning)

(i) Trained in-service teachers in elementary education.

(ii) Candidates who have completed a NCTE-recognised teacher training programme through face-to-face mode.

The reservation and relaxation of 5% marks in minimum eligibility will be provided to SC/ST/OBC (Non creamy layer)/PWD candidates as per the rules of the Central Government.

• Reservation to Kashmiri Migrants and war widow candidates will be provided as per the University Rules.
• A master’s Degree awarded without a first degree is not accepted for the purpose of Academic Studies in IGNOU.

Indira Gandhi National Open University releases the IGNOU BEd 2026 syllabus in the official notification. Candidates preparing for the test must go through the subject-wise topics that they must study. The Syllabus is released for all four subjects - General English Comprehension, Logical & Analytical Reasoning, Educational and General Awareness, and Teaching Learning and Aptitude. The IGNOU BEd entrance test includes the basic teaching concepts alongside a general intelligence test.

IGNOU prescribes the exam pattern of its BEd entrance exam and mentions it in its official notification. As per the exam pattern, the test is of two-hour duration exam. The exam is conducted in offline mode. The question paper includes 100 multiple-choice questions, each carrying 1 mark. Questions in the IGNOU BEd entrance test will be asked in both Hindi and English.

IGNOU BEd admission process 2026 includes the following steps:

Fill the Application Form

Candidates can fill out the application form online after paying the application fee of INR 1,000.

Download the Admit Card

Once the application process is over, candidates can download their Ihall ticket from the official website.

Appear for the Test

Reach the exam center on the day exam is conducted.

Check the Result

Check your exam results by using your application number and password.  

Appear for the Counselling

Once the result is declared, candidates are provided with IGNOU admissions in the BEd programme based on counselling. The IGNOU BEd counselling round is conducted in offline mode. In the IGNOU counselling, all the original educational documents of candidates are verified by the university authorities to ascertain their eligibility.

Indira Gandhi National Open University releases the IGNOU Entrance Exam Application Form at January end every year. The link is activated for a limited timeframe. Candidates are advised to fill out the submit the form after paying INR 1000. The candidate will be required to submit the filled-in application form with self-attested copies of documents as specified in Entrance-cum-Admission Form. The original documents are to be submitted later for verification, after receiving an offer letter for admission.
