What is IGNOU B.Ed Entrance Test?

IGNOU B.Ed Entrance Test is an all-India level entrance test conducted by Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). The test is conducted in online mode for IGNOU admissions in Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) programme. Every year, thousands of candidates appear for the IGNOU B.Ed Entrance Test. In 2018, total 18,283 candidates had appeared for the teaching entrance exam.

The minimum duration of IGNOU B.Ed course is two years. However, candidates are allowed to complete the course in a maximum duration of five years. Medium of instruction of the IGNOU B.Ed programme is English and Hindi.

It may be noted that earlier, National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted the IGNOU B.Ed exam. The agency was scheduled to release the application form on January 31, 2020. However, the same was not released and later NTA released a short notification stating that IGNOU B.Ed entrance test dates will be intimated later. Thereafter, the B.Ed entrance test was conducted last year and now IGNOU has directly released the application form in 2021.

IGNOU B.Ed Entrance Test Eligibility 2021

Candidates should attain at least 50 per cent marks in graduation or post-graduation in Science/Social Science/Commerce/Humanities. BE (Bachelor of Engineering)/BTech (Bachelor of Technology) candidates with specialization in Science and Mathematics and 55 percent aggregate marks are also eligible to apply for the exam.

Note: A relaxation of five percent marks is provided to candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC)/ Scheduled Tribe (ST)/ Other Backward Class (OBC) – non-creamy layer/ Persons with Disability (PwD) categories.

Apart from the above, candidates should also belong to either of the categories mentioned below:

• Trained in-service teachers in elementary education
• Completion of a NCTE recognized teacher education programme through face-to-face mode

IGNOU B.Ed Admission Process 2021

IGNOU B.Ed admission process 2021 includes the following steps:

Step 1: Fill IGNOU BEd Entrance Test Application Form

Candidates can fill the IGNOU BEd Entrance Test 2021 application form online on the official website of the varsity. Application fee for IGNOU BEd Entrance Test is Rs 1,000.

Step 2: Download IGNOU BEd Entrance Test Admit Card

Once the application process is over, candidates can download their IGNOU BEd Entrance Test 2021 admit card from the official website of the agency. Candidates can download their admit card by logging in to their registered accounts.

Step 3: Give IGNOU BEd Entrance Test

Next, candidates need to appear for the IGNOU BEd Entrance Test 2021 as per the prescribed schedule at the allotted exam centre. IGNOU BEd Entrance Test comprises 100 multiple choice questions (MCQs) of 100 marks that candidates need to complete in a duration of two hours.

Step 4: Check IGNOU BEd Entrance Test Result

IGNOU BEd Entrance Test result is declared on the official website of IGNOU. Candidates can check their result and download scorecard by signing in to their registered accounts using application number and password.  

Step 5: Appear for IGNOU BEd Entrance Test Counselling

Once the result is declared, candidates are provided IGNOU admissions in BEd programme on the basis of counselling. The IGNOU BEd counselling round is conducted in offline mode. In the IGNOU counselling, all the original educational documents of candidates are verified by the university authorities to ascertain their eligibility .
