The University of Illinois is among an exclusive group of US based universities to be classifed as a Tier-1 research institution (R1). As per an official media release by UIC, the institute retained its status of being a R1 university since 1987.
The R1 universities are known for conducting an high volume of research & an minimium expenditure of USD 50 million in research related activities over the course of an academic year.

Both University of Illinois at Chicago & ASU are among the best institutions in the United States. However, both are selective to varying degrees, when it comes to admitting students, the UOI acceptance rate is 79%, while that of ASU is around 90%.
Thus, it can be inferred that securing a seat at ASU is relatively easier as compared to at UOI.

As per an unofficial source, the University of Illinois Chicago ranked at #80 among national universities which is better than the NIU ranking at #273 position. The UIC is also exceeding in terms of graduation rates and easier selection than NIU. However, the tuition cost is more affordable at Northern Illinois University as compared to UIC. With about 244 acres of campus size, UIC is the biggest institution in Chicago and has one of the most diversified campuses in the country. The campus is located next to the Chicago loop, close to the west side neighborhood area. The credit union arena, student housing, recreational facilities, and undergraduate courses occupy the majority of the east campus. The west campus, on the other hand, has medical facilities, entertainment centers, health Science institutions, and more. Student accommodation, retail stores, sports fields, forums, and conference and event spaces are all located on the south campus.
