Yes, the University of North Texas is considered a Tier 1 research university. It is actually classified as an R1: Doctoral University (which means that it is a very high research activity university).

As per the US World and News rankings 2026, this university is ranked at #208 under the National University rankings

And it is also ranked highly by some of the top ranking bodies of the world.

No, the University of Buffalo is ranked better than the University of North Texas,  as per the Shanghai rankings 2025. For the University of Buffalo, ARWU rankings have been dropping for three years constantly.

The MS in CS course of UNT Denton is 2-3 years. While studying for this course, students can select a specialisation area in Consultation with a major professor and graduate coordinator. For admission to this course, GRE score is required. Also, students must have a GPA of 3.0 in UG coursework. Some work experience in Computer Science field is required as well.

This university accepts the applicantions of Indian students after the priority deadline. 

The students should try to complete the whole application before the priority deadline to make sure there is full consideration. If the applications are submitted after this dates, those will be evaluated on rolling basis.

The programme availability at the University of North Texas is limited in the Summer intake. In this intake, UG courses, some business courses  and specialised programs are only available. Some MS courses may also be available for admission. Next upcoming deadline is Oct 15, 2026 for Spring intake.
