The Union Public Service Commission releases the IES result PDF on its official website - upsc.gov.in. But the Commission removes the previous year result pdf from the official website. The candidates can download the previous year question papers here.

The number of IES selected each year is different and based on the number of IES vacancies mentioned in the official notification. The Commission can increase or decrease the official number of vacancies even after the release of official notification. Besides this, the Commission also maintain a consolidated reserve list to send additional candidates to the services in case of additional requirement.

The Union Public Service Commission will conducte the IES 2025 exam on June 8, 2025. The Commission will release the prelims results on its official website - upsc.gov.in. The Commission will mention the names and roll numbers of the qualified candidates in the result pdf. The candidates who qualifies in the prelims exam will be allowed to appear in the IES main exam 2025. The Commission will conduct the IES main exam 2025 on August 10, 2025 at the designated exam centres.

The Union Public Service Commission releases the Tie-Resolution principle in the IES cutoff pdf. The Commission mentions the following in the cutoff pdf:
Wherever two or more candidates have secured equal aggregate marks in ESE the tie(s) have been resolved in accordance with the principles approved by the Commission, viz.
(i) The candidates with more marks in subject/technical papers plus marks of Personality Test may be ranked higher;
(ii) In case the total marks in the subject/technical papers plus marks of Personality Test are equal, thecandidate who is senior in age may be ranked higher.

The Union Public Service Commission conduct the IES prelims exam in offline mode. The Commission prepares the IES answer key and compare the answers of the candidates with it. With comparing, the Commission calculate the marks of the candidates by awarding 2 marks for each correct question and deducting 0.6 marks for each incorrect answer.
The Commission arrange the candidates in order of their merit in their category. The candidates from other category can be counted in unreserve category if they score equal or better marks than the Unreserved Category candidate. The Union Public Service Commission releases the IES cutoff after the declaration of the final result. The Commission do not release the answer key and cutoff with the prelims result. The candidates can download the IES 2024 cutoff in the following manner:
- Go to the official website of UPSC – upsc.gov.in
- Click on the ‘Examination’ tab given at the top
- A drop list will appear, Click on the Cutoff link appearing on the list
- The ESE Cutoff PDF link will appear in the list
- Click on the link and get the ESE cutoff for all the categories and phases
