CAT and XAT are very similar on some notes but very different on other notes. Similarity:
Quant and Verbal Section
The quant and verbal section of both CAT and XAT have the same chapters and more or less, test the candidate on similar lines. In the verbal section also, both the exams are filled with RCs which check the candidates reading and analytical skills. Difference :
Difficulty & Number of Questions
CAT will have a total of 100 questions visa vis 72 questions of XAT. Since, the number of questions are less within the same time frame, XAT. Difficulty level goes up. Replacing LR-DI with DM

Hello! It simply depends upon which B-school you want to get admission into. Those aiming the IIMs must give CAT XLRI accepts only XAT IIFT score is accepted by both the IIFT campuses (New Delhi & Kolkata), and CMAT is accepted by JBIMS, Sydenham, GIM, etc. Preferably it is advised to give 2-3 exams since their difficulty level never remains same and one also has a backup in case he/she falters in one exam. https://www.shiksha.com/mba/articles/20-mba-entrance-exams-you-can-take-this-year-blogId-11473 Kindly visit the given link, it would provide you with more insights.

Hello,
The best B-schools accepting the above-mentioned MBA entrance exams are:-
1. CAT – IIMs (old ones), SP Jain, JBIMS, FMS.
2. NMAT - NMIMS (Mumbai campus)
3. XAT, XLRI, SP Jain
4. MAT, BIMTECH, SIES, NL Dalmia, IPE.

Dear,
You can get exact syllabus of XAT on its authorised website. And most probably the date of Filling application form will start from. First week of January. And exam will be probably in the month of March and April.
