For admittance into the MBA course at Alagappa University, applicants need to fulfill some of the common eligibility criteria which has been a minimum 50% marks on his/her Bachelor's Degree in any discipline (45% for Res. cat.). Admissions are made on the basis of valid score obtained in Alagappa University Entrance Test followed by Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interviews conducted by the university. In the end, seat distribution is carried out through a university-level counseling procedure based on entrance exam score followed by GD and PI performances.

There is a common doubt regarding the validity of the distance education certificats. However, the Government of India recognizes distance education certificates from UGC-DEB-approved universities for government jobs. The Ministry of Education's Distance Learning Division has stated that the central government recognizes academic qualifications from both public and private institutions for employment purposes. Taking this into consideration the Directorate of Distance Education Alagappa University degree is also valid for government jobs. In 2009, the Distance Education Council (DEC) in New Delhi gave ex-post facto approval to 108 programs offered at Alagappa University. In 2020, the DDE was renamed the Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE) as per UGC-DEB Regulations.
