Chandigarh University, Uttar Pradesh - India’s First AI-Augmented Multidisciplinary University, continues to strengthen its position as a future-ready institution & a thought leader with the launch of the Centre of Excellence in Smart Healthcare during the one-day symposium on ‘AI in Governance: Policy, Practice, and People-Centric Transformation’, which reflects the university’s keen approach toward integrating artificial intelligence into every field to bring real-world development, especially in healthcare for Uttar Pradesh.

This initiative is strategically aligned with the state’s vision of adopting advanced technologies to improve healthcare services & will play a key role in building smarter, faster, and more responsive healthcare systems that benefit people at scale.

During the symposium, CU UP received appreciation from Ex-IPS, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Social Welfare, UP Government, Sh. Asim Arun Ji, where he acknowledged Chandigarh University, UP’s consistent push toward AI-led development, and said that the Centre of Excellence in Smart Healthcare was a significant step toward improving healthcare delivery. The CoE at Chandigarh University, Uttar Pradesh, will function under the leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Thipendra P Singh, Professor of AI and Pro Vice Chancellor, CU UP.
CU Uttar Pradesh, after the launch of CoE, achieved another milestone during the symposium with the launch of an AI Ethics Training Programme in collaboration with upGrad, as the initiative aims to promote responsible and inclusive use of artificial intelligence and has also planned to train 1.50 lakh youth of Uttar Pradesh over the next five years. Making sure the youth get the most out of it, the program is backed by CU UP’s advanced AI infrastructure, with a 168 GB GPU memory system built on NVIDIA Blackwell Architecture, which provides high-end computing and research capabilities.

The Centre of Excellence in Smart Healthcare has a short-term goal for research collaboration with hospitals to validate models, research projects, and research publications. Along with this, the centre aims to assist 5 AI startups within the next two years, encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship in the healthcare sector. The CoE covers emerging key areas such as medical imaging and diagnostics, including X-rays, MRIs, and CT scans, along with predictive analytics, precision medicine, and large healthcare datasets to promote technology-led research and innovation in healthcare services by combining technologies like IoT, machine learning, and advanced computing. The centre will also analyse large healthcare datasets to improve accuracy, efficiency, and accessibility in medical services.

Collaboration remains a core focus as the university actively works alongside healthcare providers, hospitals, and industry stakeholders to integrate AI solutions into existing systems because this approach will not only improve outcomes but also strengthen research, training, and education in smart healthcare.
With all these visionary initiatives, the symposium served as a platform for meaningful discussions with two important panel discussions: the first one was ‘AI Use Cases in Government: From Vision to Implementation’, and the second was on ‘Roadmap for AI-Enabled Governance’, where it brought together experts from academia and industry to share insights and practical perspectives.

The symposium at CU Lucknow witnessed participation from distinguished leaders and experts, as the Guest of Honor, Dr. Amitabh Tewari, Head, Tata Consultancy Services (Lucknow & Indore), shared the detailed description of the initiative launched & said that ‘the growth of Chandigarh University in Uttar Pradesh represents a strong step toward building an education-led innovation ecosystem, which is drawing parallels with cities like Bengaluru and Chennai.’ Along with this, he said, ‘that institutions with a focus on AI and innovation can drive entrepreneurship, create intellectual property, and contribute significantly to India’s development journey, just like CU Lucknow.’

Keeping the momentum going, our Special Guest,  Dr. Rahul K Singh, CEO, Innovation Cell, GIMS, Greater Noida, pinpointed the importance of data-driven & ethically grounded AI in healthcare & shared that ‘AI solutions must be clinically validated, safe, and guided by medical professionals.’ & not to forget about his special mention about the critical role of incubation centers in supporting startups with the right data and mentorship, & that particularly in Uttar Pradesh. In the end, he reaffirms CU Uttar Pradesh’s efforts & described the symposium as a platform where diverse stakeholders from engineers to policymakers gathered to shape responsible innovation.

Prof. (Dr.) Thipendra P Singh, Pro Vice Chancellor, Chandigarh University UP, speaking on behalf of the university, highlighted that sectors like healthcare and governance are rapidly developing with artificial intelligence. He noted that the launch of the Centre of Excellence reflects the university’s commitment to making healthcare more efficient, accessible, and impactful. Chandigarh University, Uttar Pradesh, focuses not just on academic delivery but on building a strong ecosystem where education, research, and industry come together. Where the university prepares future-ready professionals in health-tech, policy, and newer tech while contributing to Uttar Pradesh’s growing identity as a hub for AI and innovation.
With these initiatives, Chandigarh University Uttar Pradesh is not only shaping the future of education but also contributing to a larger vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, where AI-based Tech, innovation, and human values come together to transform healthcare and governance for the better.
