MA programme of FMU is available across nine specialisations, which include Education, Journalism & Mass Comm. (JMC), Odia, English, Urdu, Mathematics, Population Studies, Political Science, Economics and Sociology.

According to a 2022-2023 prospectus, Fakir Mohan University (FMU) may relax the cut-off percentage by up to 10% for students who meet minimum eligibility requirements. The university may also increase the intake capacity by up to 5% for some courses, subject to a minimum of one seat. 

• The minimum FMU cutoff for general category students for a BA (Hons) in Economics may be 84–94%. For ST category students, the minimum cutoff may be 60–70%. 
• For admission to the M.Com program, students must pass B.Com with 45% marks in aggregate. Admission is based on CPET and DHE. 

According to FMU, students are usually selected for admission through merit in the qualifying examination.

Fakir Mohan University offers admission to PG and PhD courses based on entrance-exam scores. The university shortlists candidates for MBA and MCA courses based on OJEE scores. For all other PG programme, admission is based on CPET. The selection to BA LLB is based on the merit of the aspirants in the last qualifying exam.

Fakir Mohan University (FMU) placement is not very good for regular graduation. However, the university has been able to get direct placements at top companies like HDFC Bank and Aditi Technologies in 2020. 

According to the NIRF report 2023, 136 out of 708 UG and PG students were placed during FM University placements 2022. The median package offered to PG (2-year) and PG (3-year) students was INR 4.82 LPA and INR 9.15 LPA during placements 2022. 

The university's placement cell provides career guidance for students, arranges campus interviews, and also arranges Entrepreneurship Motivation Camps for students. 

The university has been accredited by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and is also a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), UK. The university is also accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with a 'B+' grade.

Upto now both the university's are performing very good and providing quality education . Better will be personal choices but Fakir Mohan University has some good education and good faculty and facilities compared to the North Orissa University. So Fakir Mohan University is some what better to choose

Fakir Mohan University offers some of the UG and PG courses in self-financing mode. The courses include MPhil, BA LLB, MSc Applied Microbiology, MSc Chemistry, B.Ed-M.Ed, MLIS and PMIR. The self-financing courses are not subsidised by the university and aspirants need to pay the full cost of the couse.

Fakir Mohan University offers a Research Fellowship to students. The university offers financial aid to students in the form of fellowships for two-years. The fellowship can extended to another year after the recommendation of the committee. The fellowship amount is INR 8,000 per month from the date of registration/ joining in the concerned department.
