B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering - Batch of 2029

The relevant review for the Mechanical Engineering branch in BIT Sindri.
Placements: Hello everyone, I am in the Mechanical Engineering branch of B.Tech at Birsa Institute of Technology Sindri in the Dhanbad district of Jharkhand. The placement rate for my branch last year was around 95%. The highest package is 18 LPA. The lowest package is 5 LPA, and the average package is 8 LPA for the Mechanical Engineering branch. The top recruiting companies are Tata Steel, Vedanta, JSW, JSL, L&T, etc. Around 50% of students get internships at companies such as Tata Motors, Larsen & Toubro (L&T), Vedanta, Adani, etc. Assistant Manager, Graduate Engineer Trainee, Maintenance Engineer, etc., are the top roles offered.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the Mechanical Engineering department is a bit old, but unique and antique. We have very good labs and good faculty members. The most highlighted ones are the newly constructed lecture halls and classes, which are state-of-the-art and comparable to IITs. The new hostels for students are very good and modern, similar to NIT standards. The mess food is also very good but a bit overpriced.
Faculty: Teachers are very qualified and knowledgeable. Most of them are helpful. The quality of teaching is also good. You will understand better if you ask doubts or request explanations for the parts you are unable to understand. The course is relevant and industry-ready, but students must study diligently. The semester exams are conducted by JUT. So the papers are mostly of medium difficulty.

B.Tech. in Metallurgical Engineering - Batch of 2029

Good college great placement in low feels.
Placements: For core, it's very good for metallurgical, mining, mechanical, and electrical engineering; these are the best branches of the college. In metallurgy, there is 100% placement for eligible candidates. Top companies like Tata Steel, Vedanta, JSW, JSPL, and Reliance visit the campus for our branch, along with other companies, for placements and internships. Overall, it's very good for metallurgical engineering; the average is around 7-8 LPA, and the highest is 14.5 LPA, which is the same as NIT JSR. So, it's a very good college.
Infrastructure: Nice hostels for the first year. For the second year, they are a bit old, but again, they are good. For the third and final year, there is a good library and mess (not too good, but average, like every hostel). There is a cafeteria, a Nescafé shop, and some vendor shops on campus. Free medical facilities are available, but the health center is open for specific times. There are also good sports facilities.
Faculty: The curriculum is the same as that of other engineering colleges. Faculty members are good, but don't mess with them. It's not too hard to score a CGPA if you are not too dumb. So you can enjoy as well. Semester exams are easy, and almost everyone passes. You have to do it by yourself; teachers will only help a little, but that's still not too hard. Seniors are helpful if you can make good bonds with them.
Other: Due to being one of the oldest branches, the labs and department are very old. I think they should be renovated or reconstructed. Festivals happen, but not too many clubs are available for co-curricular activities and passions. You will get good guidance here. There are many good things and bad things that are part of every campus. But due to being a very old reputed college, you will get great exposure here.

B.Tech. in Civil Engineering - Batch of 2028

College placements and hostel facilities. A deep dive into a well-known government institution.
Placements: B.Tech course in Civil Engineering is a rigorous discipline. The first year is common throughout. Core subjects are taken strictly from the 3rd semester. With advanced labs and equipment, highly trained engineers are expected after course completion. However, knowledge and discipline have nothing to do with placements. At BIT Sindri, with a limited number of companies. The job scenario has not improved much since independence. The Civil Engineering department has around 150 students, including both male and female candidates, and on average around 50 get placed.
Infrastructure: After the new hostel construction, 2 students share a single room, but this changes in the 2nd, 3rd, and final years. No Wi-Fi is provided. The quality of food in the mess is decent but not up to the mark. In each hostel, students are assigned a mess incharge to take care of the food served.
Faculty: Teachers are knowledgeable and understand their subjects well. However, since BIT is recognised under JUT, delays are inevitable. Students often receive results after an entire year of their semester. Exams are also frequently delayed. For example, in this year, being in the 4th semester, only the result of the 1st semester has been declared.
Other: This college is best from a value-for-money perspective. It is typically best for Mechanical and Electrical branches. Internal politics does exist here, with Mechanical being highly preferred over other branches. The SPOC (Special Point of Contact), who is the head of the placement coordinators. It is usually selected from Mechanical without considering other branches. However, if you have a good friend circle, life is enjoyable and you can enjoy your time at BIT.

Really good placements in the year 2024 and a great campus vibe overall.
Placements: Honestly, about 70-80% of our batch got placed. TCS and Infosys are the mass recruiters here, but if you have a high GPA, you can aim for firms like Amazon or Zomato. The average package is around 4.5 LPA, but I know a senior who bagged 12 LPA. The placement cell is helpful but very strict about attendance during the drives.
Infrastructure: Labs are decent. They have the latest software, but the classrooms can get really hot in the summer because the ACs aren't great. The library is my favorite spot, it's huge and has almost every book you'd need. Hostel life is okay, but the mess food is repetitive. Monday's paneer is good, but the rest of the week is just average. We have a solid basketball court and a gym that's usually crowded in the evening.
Faculty: Most of the professors really know their stuff, especially in the core departments. They are approachable if you go to their cabins, but some are just there to read out PPTs. The course is mostly theory, so you'll have to do extra courses online to be job-ready. Semester exams aren't impossible, but the internal marking is tight, you really have to stay on their good side for those marks.
Other: The main reason I joined because of placement record for this specific branch. The teaching is okay, but I definitely need to do some self-study to keep up. The campus is well connected to the city, but the area right outside the gate gets a bit crowded during peak hours. The college fests are decent, but they could definitely invite bigger artists. Overall, it is a solid choice if I am focused on getting a degree and a job, but I do not expect a movie-like college experience.

I'm fairly satisfied. ROI is good.
Placements: Only about 50-55% of the students are placed, with the highest package being 11 LPA and the lowest being 3.5 LPA. The top recruiters are Tata Steel, JSW, and Vedanta. Internships are around 60%. The top roles include senior research analyst and senior engineer.
Infrastructure: There is no Wi-Fi facility. There are solar panels in some of the hostels, but other than them, the rest have poor electricity and water supply. Boys' hostels have better accommodation, but girls' have to adjust to a minimum of 4 people in a room. The quality of food is quite decent. There are grounds allotted for sports, but no proper indoor games facility. Medical facilities are quite underdeveloped.
Faculty: Teachers and professors are qualified, and 80% of them have a PhD. The teaching quality is good, and the curriculum is a bit outdated, but it does the job. The difficulty level of exams is normal. The pass percentage is 35%. It doesn't really make students industry-ready, though.
Other: I chose this course as I wanted to be in a government engineering college. The best thing about it is that I am learning about 3D printing and robotics. I feel it would have been better if all the machines in the laboratories were functional. The college has ample events going on every other day.

It is a very good college for core branches.
Placements: There is 90% placement of core branches. The college has good faculty and enough resources. There are many companies that come here for placement, like Vedanta, Tata, etc., and they offer very good packages. Internships are average. Most students get them, but it depends on your luck, skill, and English fluency.
Infrastructure: New hostel, lecture halls, club rooms, and experiment labs are being built and will be completed by September 2026. In the first year, new hostels are made. All roads and classrooms are well furnished and clean. Sports like cricket, volleyball, and football are major activities that are played.
Faculty: Teachers are well qualified and their teaching quality is good. They are very friendly. The semester exams are conducted by the Jharkhand board and are not too difficult if you study but don’t study overnight, questions are easy. There are 2 midterms of 10 marks and an end semester of 80 marks.
Other: In this college, core branches are good in terms of placement, salary, and resources. The mechanical branch is more dominant.
