On Highlights
Q:   Is the BTech Mechanical Engineering syllabus the same for all colleges?
A:

The BTech Mechanical Engineering syllabus is not the same across all colleges, as every college committee sets a particular coursework pattern at the start of every academic year to be followed for the respective batch. The syllabus includes some core subjects, interesting electives, and lab work that gives detailed knowledge to the students about the workings of the field.

Q:   Is the BTech CSE syllabus the same across all colleges?
A:

The BTech CSE syllabus differs on the basis of the college offering the course. Every college follows a particular coursework pattern set by the college committee. Though the subjects might vary, the overall conceptual framework is more or less similar for students to get hold of the important concepts of the CSE field.

The syllabus includes core subjects, elective subject choices, practical lab work, workshops, and a final year research project.

Q:   Are private sector BTech jobs better-paying than government jobs?
A:

Well, yes. The private sector BTech jobs in India offer a higher earning potential than the government sector jobs, including promotions, yearly bonuses, performance rewards, etc., along with a plethora of career options across different sectors. Having said that, there is less scope for job stability in the private sector due to market downturns.

The government sector is known for decent job security and other benefits like health insurance and retirement benefits. Rest, you can sit and decide for yourself whatever suits your interests the best. Best wishes.

On Curriculum
Q:   What is covered in Machine Design subject in B.Tech course?
A:

Dear candidate, the subject of Machine Design basically teaches you about the designing fundamentals of various types of machinery across industries. You get to learn about the different ways in which elements can be combined to form an equipment or machine system and get the work done in an effective manner.

The knowledge of this subject is very important for a mechanical engineer as he/she will have to put this to use in the future whenever they enter the workforce as a mechanical engineering professional.

Hope this cleared your doubt. Have a good day.

B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering - Batch of 2027
Offered by Dumka Engineering College

Real Talk: My B.Tech College Experience.
Placements: Our batch is 2023-2027, and I am studying B.Tech. Around 60-70% of students got placed from our course. The highest package offered was 12 LPA, the lowest 3 LPA, and the average package is around 5 LPA. Top recruiting companies are TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant, and Accenture. Around 50% of students got internships in different companies like TCS, Infosys, Wipro, and some startup companies. Top roles offered are Software Developer, Web Developer, Data Analyst, and IT Support. There are some problems regarding placement that should be rectified.
Infrastructure: The facilities in my course department are good. We have well-equipped labs and classrooms, Wi-Fi available, but sometimes it's slow. The library has good books but needs more new editions. The hostel rooms are clean, but there is sometimes a water problem; the mess food is tasty but repetitive. The canteen serves snacks, the medical facilities are okay but not 24 hours, and the sports and games facilities are average. A lot of things are needed.
Faculty: Teachers are mostly helpful and qualified. They know their subjects, but sometimes they explain too fast, and it is difficult to understand. The teaching quality is good, but it depends on the teacher. The course curriculum is mostly relevant and gives basic knowledge for the industry, but more practical exposure is needed. Semester exams are a bit tough sometimes; the pass percentage is around 70-75%. Many students fail because they do not prepare.
Other: Our batch is 2023-2027, and I am studying B.Tech. I chose this course because I like engineering and want a good career in the technical field. The best things about the course are practical learning in labs and supportive teachers. I wish there were more industry visits and an updated syllabus. The college has good events and fests, the campus crowd is friendly, connectivity is okay, and the surroundings are peaceful. Scholarships are available for needy students. Extracurricular activities like sports and cultural programs are also organized, but could be more frequent. One problem is that general category students do not get scholarships; this is an issue.

B.Tech. in Mining Engineering - Batch of 2028

Our college is good for students for their overall development.
Placements: 60–70 percent of students are placed. The highest package is 16.5 LPA by Vedanta, and the lowest is 7–8 LPA by JSW. Top recruiters include Aditya Birla Group, JSW, Vedanta, etc. Till now, no one else. Vedanta is also in mining, so many students focused on the GATE exam because in mining, the syllabus is easier compared to other courses.
Infrastructure: Labs, classrooms, and libraries are average. Food quality is average but good. Hostel facilities are below average. Hostels are not maintained regularly. Upgradation is needed in this college, especially in labs, as many equipments are not working properly. They should upgrade them.
Faculty: All teachers are highly qualified and very helpful. They guide us like children. The difficulty level is medium. The passing percentage is 80–90 percent. Some issues arise while taking exams, like the syllabus not being completed. We have to complete our syllabus by ourselves.
Other: I chose this course because the mining branch is famous in BIT for placements, and the GATE syllabus is easier compared to other courses. I wish the classrooms and auditorium would be upgraded. Events are very few.

It has absolutely amazing faculty members and good placements.
Placements: 92.6 percent of students are approximately placed in my course. The highest package offered in my course is 18 LPA. The average package is 10 LPA. The lowest package is 6 LPA. The top recruiting companies in my course are Aditya Birla, Adani Power Plant, JSW, etc. 100 percent of students get internships in my course in companies like BCCL, NCL, CMPDI, etc. Roles offered in my course are manager, assistant manager, executive engineer, safety officer, etc.
Infrastructure: Wi-Fi is not available, but labs, classrooms, and libraries are very good. All facilities in my hostel are good. The quality of food available in my mess and canteen is very nice and well-cooked. Medical facilities are okay. Sports and games are too good at my college.
Faculty: Teachers are very helpful and kind as well. They are highly qualified and knowledgeable, and because of this, the teaching quality is very good. The course curriculum is relevant, and it makes students industry-ready. Semester exams in my college are neither too easy nor too difficult. The pass percentage is approximately 94 percent.

B.Tech. in Chemical Engineering - Batch of 2027
Offered by Birsa Institute of Technology, Sindri

4Placements3Infrastructure4Faculty4Crowd & Campus Life5Value for Money
Value for money college, placements are good, and the campus is satisfactory.
Placements: Around 70 percent of students got placed in the previous batch. Many opted for on-campus placement, and some cracked GATE and are doing M.Tech/PSU. Some also went for off-campus placement. The highest package was around 15 LPA in my course, and the average is 7 LPA. Top recruiting companies are Aditya Birla Group, Inox Aur Solutions and Reliance and many more cement companies. Around 90 percent of students got internships, but most were unpaid. Paid internships are hard to get. Many got paid internships in reliance and ABG. Companies generally offer us roles like a graduate engineering trainee or an engineer.
Infrastructure: Our college infrastructure is old, many departments have not been maintained for years, but new departments have good infrastructure. Core branches have old labs and infrastructure, but the IT and CS departments are in good condition. The library is good, you can find almost any books of your department, and Wi-Fi is also available. Hostels are of average condition. In 1st year, there were 4 room-sharing partners per room, but in 3rd and final year, most students got a small private room. The canteen is good, the food is average, though, and the mess condition is also slightly above average. Campus grounds/ gym is also provided.
Faculty: Teachers are good and qualified, professors are of good teaching experience and knowledgeable. The course curriculum is relevant according to the branches, but in the first year, every branch has to study the same subjects. Semester exams are a little bit difficult, but if you are attentive in class, they are not too difficult.
Other: I chose this course since BIT is only for its core branches. The course is good and helps to excel in the GATE and other exams. I would improve the old syllabus and replace it with some new subjects and some changes. There are many events in a year since there are many clubs at our college. The campus crowd is good, and the students here are bright. The campus surroundings are not that good for movies or malls, we have to go to Dhanbad. Many students avail scholarship at places like eKalyan and the Reliance scholarship.

Great campus life, average placements, and improving faculty.
Placements: The college has a Training & Placement cell that organizes aptitude tests, group discussions, and mock interviews. These prepare students for both technical and HR rounds. According to Careers360, in one placement cycle, 131 students were placed. The median salary (for UG) is around 4.70 LPA as per one report. According to college batch, the highest package is around 8 LPA.
Infrastructure: Hostel facilities are average. Rooms are decent but not very modern. Basic furniture is provided. Water and electricity are generally available, but maintenance can be slow sometimes. Cleanliness depends on the wardens and students. Discipline is not perfect but manageable. Food quality is okay, not great. The mess menu is repetitive, but hygiene is acceptable. Canteen food is better than the mess, but choices are limited. Overall, food is average like in most government engineering colleges.
Faculty: There is a large variation in pass percentage according to different students. Some say very low (33%), others very high (90+%). This suggests that difficulty may depend heavily on the branch, semester, or teacher. The official pass mark per subject (for exams) is relatively standard (35%) under JUT’s grading scheme, which is common in many engineering colleges. The attendance requirement (75%) is strict. Missing lectures can make exam eligibility harder.
Other: Athletics (running, relay race), football, basketball, volleyball, cricket, badminton, table tennis, chess, tug-of-war, kabaddi, powerlifting (in some fests). Other indoor games include carrom, pool, etc.

Good placements, helpful faculty, and decent campus life with scope for improvement.
Placements: Around 80-90% students get placed. The highest package is about 16.5 LPA. The lowest is approximately 4.5 LPA, and the average is about 7.5 LPA. Top recruiters include Tata Steel, Vedanta, JSW, Capgemini, and L&T. Nearly 70% students get internships in firms like Tata Steel, DRDO, and Microsoft. Roles offered are engineer, analyst, and developer.
Infrastructure: BIT, Sindri offers Wi-Fi, well-equipped labs, classrooms with projects, and a large library. Hostels are basic but functional, the mess food is hygienic, and the canteens are affordable. Medical care is available, and sports facilities include cricket, football, volleyball, and indoor games.
Faculty: Teachers at Bit Sindri are very qualified, helpful, and knowledgeable. Teaching quality is decent with a theory and practical focus. The curriculum is relevant and industry-oriented. Semester exams are moderately difficult with a pass percentage of around 90 to 95%.
Other: I chose cybersecurity for its demand and role in protecting data. The best part is learning ethical hacking, cryptography, and network security. Needs better labs and tools. Campus has fests, clubs, scholarships, sports, and a family crowd.
