The university is named after the former British commissioner Thomas Edward Ravenshaw. Initially, the College had only 19 students with slow growth. Ravenshaw University is ranked 151-200 by the NIRF 2024 under the 'University' category. It is a well-reputed university with 9 degree-granting schools. The university is accredited by NAAC with an A+ grade.
