- Candidates who possess certification from any of the below list professional societies are also eligible to apply for GATE however, they must ensure that those examinations are approved by MoE/AICTE/UGC/ UPSC as being equivalent to B.E./ B.Tech./ B.Arch./ B.Planning, etc.
- The Institution of Engineers (India) (IE)
- The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE)
- The Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE)
- The Aeronautical Society of India (AeSI)

- Candidates pursuing or in possession of any higher degree will be allowed to appear for GATE 2024.
- Candidates must note that there is no age limit to apply for GATE.
Q: Who can give GATE exam?
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a national-level examination conducted by the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) for admission to Master of Engineering (ME), Master of Technology (MTech), and direct PhD programs in engineering, architecture, and related branches of science.
The eligibility criteria for GATE include passing a bachelor's degree in engineering or technology or basic Science from a recognised university, and meeting the specific eligibility criteria for the discipline you wish to pursue. Candidates from India and other countries can apply for GATE, but they must meet the eligibility criteria. The exam is conducted online and is offered in 30 subjects. Candidates can check details about course-wise eligibility criteria for GATE exam at www.shiksha.com/gate-exam.
Q: What are passing marks in GATE exam?
Passing marks in GATE exam is different for all 30 papers. The GATE qualifying mark for PSUs recruitment is also different. Candidates appearing in any GATE paper have to obtain the minimum mark in order to be declared qualified for the exam. Only qualified candidates are considered for admission to MTech/MSc/PhD programs and the MHRD scholarship. Candidates can check previous year GATE cutoff for various papers on the Shiksha page or from the GATE official website.

PSU Jobs through GATE Cutoff Marks
GATE 2025 scores will be the basis of candidates’ recruitment in various PSUs. For getting shortlisted in PSU jobs, candidates must score above the GATE 2024 Cutoff and also the cutoffs announced by each company for a vacancy.
Another important point for PSU recruitment through GATE is that these companies will accept the score of the present year only irrespective of the fact that GATE scores are valid for three years. GATE scores are not valid for three years for PSU recruitment.
Candidates also keep in mind that though most of the PSUs consider GATE scores as the basis of direct recruitment some of them also use the scores for shortlisting the candidates only. After being shortlisted, candidates may have to appear in an interview, test or group discussions for final recruitment. For example, under DRDO RAC Recruitment, the GATE score will be used only for shortlisting candidates. After that, a descriptive examination followed by personal interviews will be held for final recruitment.
Q: Can I appear for GATE after doing Diploma in civil engineering?
Hi Ramesh, GATE is used for applying to M.Tech or ME. After Diploma, you have to apply for engineering (BE). After successful completion of your degree, you can go for M.Tech. So, for applying M.Tech, you have to give entrance exam called GATE. You have to qualify for getting good college. Regards.
Q: For how many papers can one student apply in GATE 2025?
Students applying for GATE 2025 can opt for two subject papers from the prescribed set of combinations. Earlier, the candidates could apply to appear in only one subject. As a candidate can appear in only two papers (only approved set) of the 30 papers for which the GATE 2025 will be conducted, they must carefully choose the papers they wish to write. A candidate is expected to appear in the papers appropriate to the discipline of his or her qualifying degree. However, he or she is free to choose any paper according to his or her admission plan, keeping in mind the GATE eligibility criteria of the institutions in which he or she wishes to seek admission. For more details regarding the admission criteria at any particular institute, the candidate is advised to refer to the websites of that institute. Those candidates opting for two paper combinations for GATE 2025 have a primary choice of paper as their default choice. The second choice of paper has to be chosen from the combinations allowed. Listed combinations are only allowed, and those that are not listed are not allowed. For more detail Read: https://www.shiksha.com/engineering/gate-exam-pattern.
Q: What are the eligibility criteria for COAP?
Q: After declining/rejecting the offer, can I be considered for subsequent offers for COAP rounds?

Application, then you may be considered for the higher preferences in the subsequent round (s) of offers based on the availability of vacancies and merit list, within the rules of that institute.
