Sikkim University is building a world-class campus on a plot of land measuring 300 acres at Yangang in the South District of Sikkim and located 56 kilometers from Gangtok. The Government of Sikkim handed over a major portion of land for the purpose and the former President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee, in his capacity as the Visitor of the university, laid the foundation stone of the campus on April 16, 2013 in the august presence of the Governor and the Chief Minister of Sikkim.

The closing ranks for top 5 PG courses stood at 127 for M.A. in International Relations, 155 for Master of Law (LL.M.), 179 for M.A. in English, 215 for M.A. in Psychology and 128 for M.A. in Political Science for General category All India Quota seats. Of all the PG courses,  M.A. in Psychology, can be considered the most competitive of all because of the highest closing scores at 215.
