Yes, admission in  Thapar is based on 12th marks for some seats/rounds, but branch allotment depends on your percentage and the available seats. Top branches like COE/CSE usually get filled through JEE-based admissions first.

I wouldn't switch just because someone says one branch is better than the other. It really depends on what interests you and what kind of career you're aiming for.

ECE ka exact minimum score changes every year. But if the percentage remains generally 85–90 percentile+ in JEE Main, then chances are good. The cutoff depends on the category and counselling round.
