Yes, admission in  Thapar is based on 12th marks for some seats/rounds, but branch allotment depends on your percentage and the available seats. Top branches like COE/CSE usually get filled through JEE-based admissions first.

As far as I know, Thapar hasn't announced the 2026 lateral entry admission schedule yet. I do go with Thapar. A friend did M.Sc there and had a good experience with faculty and research exposure. VIT is also good, but personally I'd rank it Thapar > VIT > Banasthali for M.Sc Chemistry.
