VELS University awards scholarships to meritorious students under various schemes. Some of the scholarships offered to the candidates are VSAT scholarship, Merit scholarship, First Graduate Scholarship, Artist Associations Scholarship, Sports Scholarship, among others.
Scholarship Types at VELS University
Scholarships for students at this university are as follows:
VSAT Scholarship
The Vels Scholarship Admission Test (VSAT) is an admission test that intends to give equal opportunities to all students from different regions of the country to study their desired courses.
- A 100% scholarship is awarded to those students who are at the top of the list.
- 75%, 50%, 25%, and 10% scholarships are awarded to meritorious students depending upon the rank.
- This VSAT scholarship is only valid for undergraduate courses but not for marine programs. It does not apply for postgraduate or lateral entry and diploma courses.
Merit Scholarship After Class 12
This scholarship is offered to students based on their marks secured in Class 12 qualifying exams. This scholarship scheme also applies to the Thiruvanmiyur campus. See the table given below:

A scholarship of 10% is provided to those candidates who have scored 80% and above in the 12th standard State Board and 75% and above in the CBSE board. This scholarship is awarded on the first come first serve basis and is only available to 20% of candidates in the program. The scholarship is not available for the Pharm. D course.
Scholarship for MBA Program
1. Candidates who have scored 40% or more in the MAT/CAT entrance exam will get a scholarship of 10% in the tuition fee.
2. Candidates who have scored 60% or more in the TANCET entrance exam will get a scholarship of 10% in the tuition fee.
3. Those candidates who have CGPA of 8.0 or above in their Undergraduate degree program will get a scholarship of 10% in the tuition fee.
Scholarship for First Graduates
This scholarship is awarded to candidates who will be the first graduates in their families.
- Students who are first generation are entitled to a 10% concession in their tuition fees. The scholarship is available only for programs in Engineering and Allied Health Sciences and not for B.Tech. Robotics and AI.
- A first graduate certificate needs to be provided by the Tahsildar under the Tamil Nadu government.
Sports Scholarship
This scholarship is granted to assist athletes and sportspersons in pursuing their education.
- A scholarship covering 100% of tuition fees and also offering free hostel accommodation is available for exceptional athletes and sportspersons. In case the full quota for sports scholarships is taken up, then the other students can be considered for 75%, 50%, 25%, and 10% scholarships.
- Programs shall be assigned to the students depending on availability. Students who cannot be accommodated in the programs that they wish to pursue will be allowed to select other programs.
- The assessment of the candidates for sports quota shall be based on the documentation presented by them, which proves their involvement and success at the international, national, interuniversity, and state level, and also the medals won by them.
- The performance of these students will be monitored and assessed by the Director of Physical Education, VISTAS, during the entire period of their study. In case of poor performance, the authorities will assess the continuation of the fee concession.
Alumni Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to alumni of Vels Group of Institutions who want to take further education in VISTAS under both undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
UG to PG and PG to PG Students
- A scholarship of 20% of the total tuition fee is given.
- The candidate has to provide the consolidated mark statement or provisional certificate obtained from the Controller of Examinations, VISTAS.Minimum CGPA of 7.5 in the undergraduate course is the eligibility criterion for the scholarship.
- The scholarship is applicable to the undergraduate and postgraduate courses only and not to the Pharm.D, Pharm.D Post Baccalaureate, MBA Twinning, collaborative and Marine courses.
Vels School Alumni – UG
Alumni of Vels Group of Schools are eligible for 20% scholarship of the total tuition fee after submitting a bonafide certificate from the principal.

Apart from the tuition fee for BTech at VELS Institute of Science, Technology and Advanced Studies (VISTAS), there are some additional charges for laboratory work, library access, and university examinations. Also consider optional costs for hostel stay or transport if you plan to use those facilities.
VELS Institute of Science, Technology and Advanced Studies BTech fee lies on a moderately pricey end. The university offers multiple BTech courses and thus the fees are varied. BTech in Marine Engineering is the costliest with the fees of INR 13.3 lakh. However, there is a provision of scholarship. With the help of financial assistance/ education loans, and scholarships, the total fee may get reduced to an affordable range.
VELS Institute of Science, Technology and Advanced Studies provides financial assistance to students who come from economically disadvantaged families. Eligible BTech students can apply for fee concessions by providing family income proof.

Placements: In our college, students who have above 65% can apply for their respective courses. The highest package is for law courses, which offer 1 LPA, while the lowest package is Rs. 55,000. The average package is about Rs. 75,000. Tata is one of recruiters. About 98% of students are selected in our course. The top roles offered in our course are in bioinformatics, microbiology, and food biotechnology.
Placements: The percentage of students who were placed in the course is 42 students out of 93 attendees. 3.7 LPA. Indigo Airlines and Airport Authority of India have given internships to most of the students who have applied: Officer in AOCS, Executive in Ramp, Officer in Security, and Officer in Catering.
Placements: Our program has a good record of placing students in companies like Indigo, Air India, etc. Many students from our senior batch have secured full-time positions, while even second-year students have obtained part-time jobs on campus. While the number of companies visiting our college is limited, those that do tend to be high-quality employers, offering opportunities to a select group of students.
Placements: 90 percent of students are placed in our college. Companies like Accenture Zoho, etc. have arrived for placements. The students were placed in various companies and also had a good package for their career. Our college helps us in placement training, etc.
Placements: Most students in aviation don't depend on the placements provided by the college. Only a few attend the campus interviews for placements because they offer basic pay jobs at IndiGo Airlines. IndiGo is currently the only recruiting company for aviation. They don't provide internships here.
