Types of Animation Courses Offered at IIT Bombay IDC

The M.Des course offered at the IDC, IIT Bombay, features a dedicated stream in Animation, among various other specializations. Students interested in learning animation can opt for the dual degree course at IDC or pursue an MDes after completing a BDes or equivalent course. Following is the list of types of courses and streams offered at the IDC, IIT Bombay.

  • BDes: The BDes course is offered for the duration of 4 years; however, candidates will be given an option to convert their BDes course to a 5-year dual degree course.
  • MDes: The specializations offered for the MDes course are Industrial Design, Visual Communication, Animation Design, Interaction Design & Mobility, and Vehicle Design. Apart from this, the MDes in Research course is also provided at the IDC, IIT Bombay.
  • Dual Degree BDes+MDes: It is a 5-year duration course where students can learn different.
  • PhD: Students who have completed their MDes course can opt for the PhD Course to expand their learning in the design industry.

IIT Bombay Animation Courses: Eligibility Criteria & Admission Process

Students aspiring to take admission to any of the Designing courses at the IDC IIT Bombay may refer to the information provided below for eligibility criteria and admission process:

IIT Bombay BDes Eligibility Criteria

  • Age limit: The candidate should be born on or after October 1, 2000 (OPEN/EWS/OBC-NCL category) and on or after October 1, 1995 (SC, ST, or PwD category)
  • Entrance exam: Candidates must have qualified in the UCEED entrance exam and can apply for admission using the common application form available at uceed.iitb.ac.in
  • Qualifying examination: The candidate must have passed the 10+2 qualifying exam in the year 2024 or 2025. However, candidates who appeared for the first time in their qualifying examination in 2023 or earlier are NOT eligible. Candidates belonging to the Science Stream (at 10+2 level) with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as subjects are also eligible to apply to the BDes program at IDC, IIT Bombay

IIT Bombay MDes Eligibility Criteria

  • Qualifying Exam: Bachelor’s Degree in Design/Engineering/Architecture/ Interior Design
  • Entrance Exam: Candidates must have qualified in the CEED entrance exam
